Margaret Murray served as director, working on CAIDA's bandwidth estimation, Network Modeling and Simulation (NMS), and Internet Atlas projects. She also maintained CAIDA's Internet Tools Taxonomy and Internet Measurement Infrastructure surveys.

Background

Previously, Margaret worked in the UCSD School of Medicine's Virtual Reality Lab, where she designed and implemented a flexible multi-media virtual reality (MMVR) system, a 3D environment for simultaneously exploring 3D models, 2D images, text, sounds, and animations. Margaret has many years of computer-related experience in system configuration and software development, including extensive work managing and coordinating heterogeneous systems in a variety of local and wide-area networks. She has also designed and implemented several relational database applications, and has designed and and taught both networking and field service troubleshooting courses. Margaret received her Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego in 2001. Her dissertation research into virtual reality devices and acoustic and digital pianos focused on how to design more expressive real-time computer interfaces. Research considered how best to achieve ensemble in musical cyberspace and was conducted through Music's "Critical Studies and Experimental Practices" department.
