We analyze data from three NLANR sites for breakdown of traffic by applications.
NLANR was a research unit
at the San Diego Supercomputer Center is to characterize the behavior of high performance connection (HPC)
networks
NLANR has developed the Network Analysis Infrastructure (NAI).
We analyzed data from NLANR's
Passive Measurement and Analysis (PMA) project.
The HPC sites are typically
Internet 2 /abilene
connected university campuses of OC3 or OC12 links
We present monthly data samples for three NLANR sites during the period of 1998 - 2001
from three NLANR sites.
Individual applications have been aggregated into groups (e.g.
file sharing, tunneling) by bytes, packets and flows.
Traffic within each site differs from others. For instance the
FLA traffic is dominated by peer-to-peer and news applications
while the SDC has significantly more WWW data.
