The COMMONS workshop was be held on December 12-13, 2006 (by invitation only) at the San Diego Supercomputer Center in La Jolla, CA.
Introduction
Over the past half-decade, we've witnessed an explosion of interest in municipal wireless and community networking. While these initiatives have focused on networking local communities, the next evolution in networking is peering these networks together. This is an idea that many of us have been discussing for years and it's time to move this vision forward. Recently, CAIDA and Cisco launched a new initiative to peer community and municipal networks utilizing national and regional fiber backbones.
The COMMONS Project is a collaboration that provides a platform for Internet researchers to study this critical infrastructure as well as a low-cost medium for networks to peer with one-another. You can find more information on the COMMONS Project home page and the COMMONS recommended reading list.
