The CAIDA bandwidth estimation testbed

                          Abstract

CAIDA's self-contained testbed can test bandwidth estimation tools
under controlled cross-traffic conditions on a four hop path
containing OC-48 and gigE links. The Spirent SmartBits 6000 network
performance tester under the control of Spirent's SmartFlow
application generates plausible, reproducible cross-traffic loads up
to link saturation levels. Cross-traffic exhibits a wide range of
varying packet sizes and interarrival times within its component
flows.
