Current Individual Views
Views of the Topology from Each of the Routers

The visualizations available in this section of Mantra-WWW represent views of MBGP topology as seen from the individual routers. There is a map corresponding to each of the routers from which we collect MBGP-tables. Unlike the visualization that represents the global-view, a lot more information is available through these individual-view maps. Lot of useful information related to various aspects of multicast, from the point of view of individual routers, is overlaid on each of the maps and can be viewed with the help of different color-coding. The table below lists the currently available individual-views.

More Info:
Characteristics (color-coding etc) of these maps.
How to use Otter, the visualization tool.

Available Color Codings:

  • Topology Stats: Statistics about various nodes (AS') in the MBGP topology. The available statistics are:
    • FanOut: The out-degree of the nodes (AS'), i.e. how many AS' have MBGP peering with the each of the AS.
    • Route Terminations: The MBGP routes passing through the nodes (AS), i.e. the number of networks that are reachable via each of the AS'.
Note: A high number of "route terminations" for a AS does not necessarily mean that a wider portion of the Multicast Networks is reachable via it. Because of the mask length variations no conclusions can be made just on the basis of number of routes.

  • Link Stats: Statistics about various links (AS-AS hops) in the MBGP topology. The available statistics are:
    • Routes Passing Through: The MBGP routes passing through the nodes (AS), i.e. the number of networks that are reachable via each of the AS'.
      [please see the note above]

  • AS MSDP Stats: Statistics related to SAs overlaid on the map (please refer to the MSDP section of Mantra-WWW for more information on MSDP). The available statistics are:
    • SA Messages: Count of SAs originating from each of the AS'.
    • Duplicates: Count of duplicate SAs from each of the AS'.

  • AS Mcast Stats: Membership and Group statistics related overlaid on the map. The available statistics are:
    • Groups: Count of Groups for which an AS has at least one participant host.
    • Sources: Count of hosts in the AS' that are participating in at least one group.

Note: All the above mentioned options are *not* necessarily available in each of the individual-view maps. It entirely depends on what kind of data we are capturing from different routers.
